NY Times: Steve Jobs and Obama →
Chris sent me this. It completely addresses what I was thinking about, and illustrates a very difficult truth.
“It is hard to estimate how much more it would cost to build iPhones in the United States. However, various academics and manufacturing analysts estimate that because labor is such a small part of technology manufacturing, paying American wages would add up to $65 to each iPhone’s...

Apple Profits
Maybe I’m just astoundingly naive, but I watched the State of the Union and listened to Obama talk about bringing jobs back to our shores. Revitalizing troubled cities like Cleveland, Pittsburgh.
I also read today about Apple’s 46 billion dollar record sales. It’s tremendous that they’ve achieved that much success, and indeed people everywhere online seem to be trumpeting...

Someday I Want To Give Interviews Like Ashbery
ecantwell:
RL: This is an imposing sort of question, but have you thought about what your distinctive role as a contemporary poet is?
Ashbery: It’s hard for me to say. I don’t know really …
RL: It’s for others to say?
Ashbery: Yes.
RL: You once said of Auden that he brought people closer to the world they live in. Is that an intention that you’ve had as well to some extent?
Ashbery: I...

"Which means—" "Which means..." →
I FIGURED IT OUT. I was right about the timeframe of when the movie was made. I was wrong about who said it (although John Candy is IN the scene… he just doesn’t say the lines). I was wrong about the inflection, but I was close, as it’s said in an excited, anxious manner.
The next thing to figure out is why I’ve been saying this for years, without any context or knowledge...
A Plea for Help
I’ve had a movie quote stuck in my head for several months now and I can’t figure out what it’s from. The worst part is I actually figured it out sometime in the recent past (last year… maybe the the year before) but have since lost it again.
It’s tough, given that the quote is more about inflection of the delivery than the words said.
The quote is an exchange...
